About
The yellow-crown amazon parrot can be easily identifie in the wild thanks to its vivid green and yellow coloration. These sociable birds gather in large flocks at night to roost, but when it’s time to eat, they disperse into smaller groups. The flocks often stay in a particular location as their home range depending on the food availability nearby.
Due to their colorful feathers and capacity to mimic human speech, yellow-crowned amazon parrots have gained popularity as pets, yet their wild population has remained stable. It can be difficult to decide whether to keep parrots in a home because they can be very noisy and require a lot of upkeep.
It is frequently an abundant resident of the Osa Peninsula, frequently spotted in semi-open spaces close to forested regions or under the canopy of trees. Although they typically live in pairs or small flocks of 15 to 20 birds during the breeding season, winter roosts have been recording to house over 100 parrots.
Mealy parrots can be noisy while flying, but they are usually extremely calm while eating—unless there are some hyperactive young ones nearby!
