Turquoise Oscar A conure is a Western Hemisphere bird that can range in size from a giant parakeet to a little parrot. They resemble rose-ringed parakeets from Afro-Eurasia or Australian parakeets in size and lifestyle. South and Central America are home to every surviving species of conure. One exception was the now-extinct Carolina parakeet, Conuropsis carolinensis.
